Area Jugones, a Spanish website that regularly leaks PS Plus games ahead of time, claims that Konami will reveal the Metal Gear Solid remake sometime in February or March. This is an update to the previous leak claiming that Konami has been working on a remake for years for the PlayStation 5. If the unannounced remake is indeed exclusive to the PlayStation 5, we’ll likely hear about it at the next PlayStation State of Play. Unless, of course, Konami has a Metal Gear presentation planned, similar to what it did with Silent Hill where it announced, among other things, the Silent Hill 2 Remake for the PS5. But, as big as a Metal Gear Solid remake is, it makes sense to use it to kick off or cap off a showcase, similar to what happened with The Last of Us Part 1 at last year’s Summer Game Fest. Sony has held a State of Play showcase for two years straight and it’s highly unlikely it will break the streak this year. On top of what could be a Metal Gear Solid reveal, Sony will be releasing the PSVR2 on February 22. Not to mention, the Resident Evil 4 remake will be released on March 24 with the first (and likely only) DLC for Horizon Forbidden West following suit on April 19. This means that Sony has at least two big upcoming games that it could feature at a State of Play showcase. Unlike Silent Hill, where fans will be more than glad to just know about a new game being in development, Metal Gear has a rather hardcore fanbase. Most would rather not see a new Metal Gear game if it means sullying the series’ reputation as one of the genres’ finest examples. Konami knows first-hand how quickly things can go south with Metal Gear Survive, so a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game is a great way to test the waters. This way, if the remake sells well, it can spend the next few years plotting out the future of the franchise. But, if it doesn’t, it can put Metal Gear to pasture and revisit it some other time (preferably with Hideo Kojima in tow). Speaking of Metal Gear, this rumored PS5 remake isn’t the only one that’s believed to be in development. Virtuous Studios is reportedly working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Also, Oscar Isaac gave us an update about the live-action adaptation of Metal Gear Solid last year, where he implied that we shouldn’t expect it to come anytime soon.
